He is the Principal Investigator of this program. Dr. Kraiselburd has more than 23 years of experience in conducting basic research in dengue and herpesviruses and in Simian Immunodeficiency Virus vaccine research projects using nonhuman primates. He has been the P.I. of several R01 grants, and NIAID and DOD contracts and has the required administrative experience in the establishment of research programs. In 1997, Dr. Kraiselburd received the first Glaxo Senior Investigator Award for Puerto Rico for his work in AIDS research, and in 1995 obtained the first and only AIDS-related U.S. patent held by the Medical Sciences Campus. Dr. Kraiselburd was a member of the NCRR Review Committee (1997-2000), and has been a reviewer for the DOD Infectious Diseases Program since 1998. He oversees all the scientific operations of this grant and will ensure that these operations proceed in an efficient and timely manner. Dr. Kraiselburd has the experience to monitor the advancement of young investigators. He will work in close collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator and with the Internal and External Advisory Committees to reach the program goals.

Ms. Ortiz is in charge of all the administrative processes. She ensures that the Program fulfills all the Institutional and government norms, maintains communication with NIH, personnel, and any other agency as required. She also is in charge of material purchases, supervision of personnel, preparation and submission of contracts, and preparation of progress reports among other responsibilities.
