The RCMI Clinical Proteomics Discovery Core Facility is located in the Microbiology Department (3rd floor of the Main Bldg, Lab B-316) and directed by the PI (http://rcmi.rcm.upr.edu/research/proteomics.html). Currently the instruments include: a Ciphergen SELDI-TOF mass spectrometry instrument with Biomarker Wizard program, Biomek 2000 Robotics, LTQ MS/MS Proteome X mass spectrometer with 3 Pentium Optiplex computers with the Bioworks program (Thermo) for analysis of peptide sequences, a speedvac, a - 800C freezer (Thermo), a refrigerator, a chemical fume hood, and gel electrophoresis apparatuses for 1 and 2-dimensional gels. . 4 HPLC and 1 FPLC instruments located in the 1st and 3rd floors of the Main Building are available as part of the Proteomics Discovery core Facility. A 2-DIGE imaging system will be available by March 2008.

The RCMI Flow Cytometry Core Laboratory (http://rcmi.rcm.upr.edu/research/flow.html) is located in the 3rd floor of the Main building within the Dept. of Microbiology. It has the equipment for apoptosis studies which include: a FACSORT cell sorting flow cytometry system from Beckton Dickinson Biosystems; FACSTATION analytical computer (Macintosh Power G3); Off-line analytical workstation (Macintosh Power G4); Fluorescence microscope for visual examination of samples; Automated photographic equipment; Refrigerator-freezer for storage of samples and reagents. A FaCSCalibur is available at the Cancer Center for 4-color analyses of patient cells.

The RCMI Molecular Biology Core Facility (http://rcmi.rcm.upr.edu/research/molgene.html) located in the Biochemistry Department (6th floor Main Bldg) has available all equipment necessary for quantitative PCR, western blot imaging, and Microarray studies, which include: a BioRad icycler DNA Thermocycler and GS505 molecular imager Mac system with screens for 35S, 32P and chemiluminescence, Pharmacia Phast electrophoresis apparatus, BioRad Dry-Blot apparatus, Gel Doc System, and a RX Molecular Imager. A Microarray facility with technical support will be established in 2007-2008.
