13th Annual Puerto Rico Neuroscience Conference
The 13th Annual Puerto Rico Neuroscience Conference will take place on December 3 and 4, 2004 at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus.
The Conference will follow the same format used last year of having 5 invited key speakers offering one hour seminars interspersed with younger researchers giving 30 minute talks. A poster session will also take place, where all neuroscientists can present posters of their ongoing research.
In addition, for the first time this year we will begin the Conference with the
"Jose del Castillo Memorial Lecture" on Friday afternoon. We expect that this lecture will be incorporated as part of the Neuroscience Conference in future years to honor the memory of Dr. Jose del Castillo, the founder of the Institute of Neurobiology in Old San Juan and the pioneer of Neurosciences in Puerto Rico.
The "Jose del Castillo Memorial Lecture" will be given by Dr. Henrique von Gersdorff, from The Vollum Institute, Oregon Health and Science Univ.
Abstracts of posters to be presented should be send to: jegarcia@upracd.upr.clu.edu before Nov. 15, 2004
This year we will be offering a Hands-On Workshop on Microarrays. The workshop will be held during the week following the conference and it will last three days. The workshop will be highly intensive and will be focused on work with Agilent Arrays ( http://www.chem.agilent.com/scripts/PHome.asp ). Supplies including human mRNA, glass arrays, amplification and labeling kits are covered by COBRE-Neuroscience. Fifteen people will be selected from all the applicants. Priority will be given to students and postdocs who have a definite intent in applying microarrays to their research and who do not have experience with Agilent Microarrays. Those of you who understand that microarrays may be applicable to your research are also invited to apply.
To apply please sendthe following by email to Dr. Sandra Pena de Ortiz
(spena@upracd.upr.clu.edu):
1. A letter of intent stating how you plan to use microarrays in your research.
2. A CV or resume.
3. A letter of recommendation from your research advisor detailing your research experience and explaining how you will benefit from the workshop.
